Koala Kids has a partnership with several Australian Hospitals, including The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and Monash Children’s Hospital, among others. They will work closely with hospitals and families around Victoria to determine which families would most benefit from a donation of this book.
For privacy reasons, we can’t share names or photographs of the families receiving these donations.
However, you can follow @blanklitbooks and @koalakids on Instagram and Facebook for updates (such as how many books have been donated).

Children (and adults) with cancer undergo an overwhelming number of procedures, including blood tests.
This book:
Uses humorous illustrations and simple text to explain what to expect during a blood test
Offers 10 helpful tips for parents and health care workers (which can help parents advocate for their kids)
Includes an extensive glossary which explains many terms children might hear related to their blood test (such as venepuncture, FBE, and central line).
Contains an “I Can Do Hard Things” certificate which can be filled out with the child’s name to encourage them along their cancer journey
While it may not answer every question, it starts important conversations and gives kids the tools they need to feel more in control of their health. It is my hope that this book will minimise trauma associated with having a blood test (or a hundred blood tests), making the cancer journey that little bit more bearable for kids and families.
