Why is fb marketplace the worst but we all keep using it?
Sometimes I need something, but I don’t like to buy things from big companies and support the billionaires (because they don’t exactly return the favour), so I check to see if I can get it on Facebook marketplace. I almost always find what I need there. But there are some problems with it, if you haven’t noticed.
First, the ghosting problem. If you don’t know what a ghost is, it is an apparition. But this ‘ghosting’ just means you respond to someone’s message about something they want to buy from you (or vice versa), and then when you message them again, they never respond, no matter how many times you message them. It’s really frustrating. So I find what I need, but I can’t figure out how to get it because Tim maybe thinks I’m a scam artist or something. I’m pretty sure I’m not.
Another problem is the pricing. I don’t know why everyone thinks their old stuff is worth so much money. For example, I’ve been looking for a basket. I’m not going to give you $40 for an old dusty basket that you don’t want anymore. I would maybe give you that much for a beautiful, handmade basket that you carefully crafted, but not an old dusty one that you bought from Kmart 10 years ago. I would appreciate it if we can all agree that our stuff isn’t worth much, and price it accordingly. I really prefer to buy stuff second hand, because I think we’ve reached a point in society where we don’t need to be making new stuff that much (except maybe bread), but it’s hard for anyone to be motivated to go second hand when new is cheaper.
Well, those are the biggest problems. Sometimes I find a great deal on marketplace though, so that’s why I keep checking. Some people are reasonable, and some are not. I do wonder though, what happened to Gumtree? I think I’m the only person who uses it who isn’t 80. But I like it. I once got the best cat in the world from Gumtree. He’s dead now.
I hope you enjoyed reading this. I think people like to see someone else complain about the things they complain about so they feel less alone. If that’s you, I wrote this for you.
