Why I freeze my chicken in glass jars
Believe it or not, this is a frequently asked question. Apparently it’s a really weird thing to do. To clarify, I buy chicken in large quantities, cut it up ready to be used in a curry or fajitas or whatever I feel like eating in the future, and put this raw, cut up chicken into glass jars which would otherwise be in my recycling bin (for example, peanut butter jars).
Well, there are so many reasons to do this, and I think you should give it a try before you judge me. Let’s explore the reasons now…
It is better for the environment than using plastic bags. If you are a vegetarian, you probably think I shouldn’t have chicken at all, and that would be even better for the environment. Well, I’m not perfect. Anyways, think of all the plastic bags that aren’t in landfill because of my chicken jars. At least 10.
It is cheaper than buying those plastic bags. Because I don’t have to buy them. I already have jars because we eat a lot of peanut butter.
There are no microplastics and phthalates and stuff in glass jars. Only microglasses in my chicken 👌
It’s easier to thaw out my chicken when it’s in a glass jar. I wouldn’t put one of those plastic bags in the microwave, and even sitting them in hot water makes me think of all the microplastics being melted all over my chicken. But you can put a glass jar in the microwave if you need your chicken thawed in a hurry (just make sure you take off the lid).
The glass is more protective against freezer burn. Because it is solid, not liquid like plastic.
The glass jars are less likely to split at the seams and leak all over my fridge or sink when I’m thawing out my chicken. They don’t have seams.
